2018 Week 9 Preview

Already in week 9?! Football season moves so fast. This has the potential to be another big upset week. All but 4 ranked teams play on the road this week and West Virginia has already played and won. Home field advantage is a real thing in college football. Just ask Ohio State and Oregon. As I have had an extremely busy week, let’s get straight to some previews!

How I Fared: 3-3 last week, 26-22 overall

Notable Games
7Georgia vs 9Florida (Jacksonville)
What a matchup this turned out to be. Both teams ranked in the top 10 with a chance to win their division. Both teams are coming off bye weeks, but before that, Georgia suffered one of the biggest upsets of the season when they fell to LSU. The Bulldogs possibly have a QB controversy on their hands and that could be bad news for them. Florida has been a strong team that is capable of winning games they are behind in. This is the biggest game of the weekend and hopefully will live up to all of this hype.56
I am picking Georgia

14Washington State at 24Stanford
Washington State is coming off a huge win over Oregon last week. Stanford has not shown that they are good enough to be ranked, but neither have a lot of teams. This game should show us if Washington State really is the Pac12’s best hope or if last week was just a product of Gameday being in Pullman for the first time and their amped up crowd. Stanford has been battling injuries and I just don’t think they will be able to get by Washington State.
I am picking Washington State

16Texas A&M at Mississippi State
Honestly, this game could go a ton of ways. I think Texas A&M is the better team, but Mississippi State can be an upset waiting to happen. I haven’t been totally impressed with either team, but the Aggies have been more consistent. The cowbells could make this one close, but I think the A&M offense pulls away late to win this game. Expect Mississippi State to score more than a field goal this week.
I am picking Texas A&M

18Iowa at 17Penn State
This is a big game for Iowa. The Big 10 West division is so close right now. Because Iowa’s loss is to Wisconsin, they will need to continue to win in conference and hope the Badgers drop one. A win over Penn State would help. Penn State held on to beat Indiana last week, but they haven’t looked strong. They need to make a statement by getting a good conference win, and I think they do just that this weekend. It will be close and probably not the prettiest game, but it’s an important one.
I am picking Penn State

21South Florida at Houston
South Florida has been close to being upset in most of their games this season. Their last two games have been against teams they should have blown out of the water but won only by a combined 9 points. Their defense isn’t good meaning this game should be a shootout. This one could go either way. I am picking USF because, despite all those close games, they have found ways to win. This will be their toughest game of the season and Houston has the chance to show everyone they are better than we think.
I am picking South Florida

Texas Tech at Iowa State
What a weird game. I don’t know who is going to win. The Big 12 has been interesting this season and fun to watch. Texas Tech seems to have some semblance of a defense for the first time in a long time which makes them scary. Iowa State is always good but not good enough to win the conference. This one could be low or high scoring, close or a blowout either way. I think it should be a great game with a lot of back and forth. The Red Raiders have also been successful on the road this season, but going into Ames will be a tough test.
I am picking Texas Tech

Vanderbilt at Arkansas
The Hogs and Head Coach Chad Morris finally got a win over an FBS team! The Razorbacks posted a 23-0 shutout over Tulsa last week and once again the defense was impressive and the offense was questionable at best. Lucky for the Hogs, they should have Ty Storey back from concussion this week against Vanderbilt. The ‘Dores have been scrappy again this season, but still can’t seem to get over the hump and get the wins. If the Arkansas offense comes to play, this could be a very interesting game as they look to extend their win streak from one to two. An SEC win would be huge for the Hogs.
