2019 Week 6 Preview

There weren’t any major upsets last week, but there were a couple near misses. Clemson eked out a win over UNC 21-20. Texas A&M very nearly lost to Arkansas. Mighty Cal was finally felled by Arizona State. There are some interesting games this week. This is also another full week of byes for top 25 teams. Even more exciting, I get to be home all day Saturday to watch games.

My Record: 5-1 last week (for the third week in a row), 23-7 overall

Notable Games
25Michigan State at 4Ohio State
Ohio State has not shown any drop after losing head coach Urban Meyer. They may actually be better than they were last season. They have demolished all the teams they have faced this season. Michigan State has been very on brand for Michigan State. They are just good enough to be in top 25 without being very good. I doubt this game will be all that close. I just don’t see the Spartans being able to compete for a full four quarters.
I am picking Ohio State

7Auburn at 10Florida
This game is hard to pick because I am pretty sure both teams are overrated. Florida really hasn’t played anyone and are just ranked this high because they haven’t lost yet. Auburn has played better competition, but I’m not sure they are a top 10 team. Bo Nix has played very well for a true freshman. The Tigers had no trouble with Mississippi State last weekend. Florida dispatched Towson last week and their closest game was against Kentucky. I’m not sure how this game will play out.
I am picking Auburn

California at 13Oregon
California lost their first game of the season last week to Arizona State and also lost their QB for awhile. Oregon has been doing well since their loss to Auburn to start the season. I think the Ducks are the better team, but Cal can be sneaky. Look for Oregon to emerge as the Pac 12’s one true hope to make the playoff. This conference continues to beat itself up every week, making it look like a long shot for them to get all the way to the final four without some other teams losing.
I am picking Oregon

14Iowa at 19Michigan
Michigan was able to bounce back last week with a big win over Rutgers after their loss to Wisconsin. Iowa is still undefeated and has looked strong this season. I think the Hawkeye defense will be the difference in this game. Michigan has struggled on the offensive side of the ball, especially against good defensive teams. I think this one will be very close, especially since this game is in the Big House.
I am picking Iowa

18UCF at Cincinnati (Friday)
This is a huge divisional game in the American Conference. UCF had a good win last weekend over UConn after suffering their first regular season loss in a long time. Cincinnati is undefeated and has looked pretty strong. I think UCF has a lot more to prove in this game and I am looking forward to seeing how they will respond to that. I’m sure Cincy feels they have a pretty good chance to win this game and they will come out strong. Look for this to be a close and exciting game.
I am picking UCF

TCU at Iowa State
TCU cracked the top 25 a couple weeks ago before losing to SMU in a shootout. Iowa State has been ok, but not great. They made a heck of a comeback in their game against Baylor last week, but Baylor was able to kick a field goal with 21 seconds left to win. I think this will be an interesting game. It could be a lot of fun.
