Week of Dec 12 Preview

This will be the last week before conference championship games (though there will still be plenty of regular season games taking place next week). There are a lot of cancelations in the top 25 this week and I probably don’t just speak for myself when I say I’m a bit worried about getting in all of the conference championship games. We are now officially in the Holiday Season (Happy Hannukah to those that celebrate!) which means we are wrapping up on the CFB front. It has been a crazy year, but I am glad we did get a season. There is still a lot of college football left to play and I am thankful for that.

My Record: 3-3 last week, 49-28 (64%)

Notable Games
9Georgia at 25Missouri
Georgia seemed to have given up after their loss to Florida when they ended up in a fight with a bad Mississippi State team, but they have since bounced back. Missouri is coming off a huge fourth quarter comeback win over Arkansas last week. Georgia is the better team in this game, but I think Missouri will come to play. They might make this a game for a half or so. Georgia’s defense is significantly better than Arkansas’s.
I am picking Georgia

17North Carolina at 10Miami
Both of these teams are coming off big wins last week. North Carolina got a feel-good win over FCS Western Carolina and Miami shutout Duke. This should be one of the more competitive games of the day. Miami has found ways to win in pretty much every game they have played this season. The Tar Heels are a team that you can never count out if there is still time on the clock. I think this game will come down to the end, but I am going to take the home team.
I am picking Miami

15USC at UCLA
This should be an interesting rivalry game. USC needed two last minute comebacks to win their first two games but have looked great in their last two games. UCLA is on a two-game win streak. The Bruins have lost two games this season by a combined 9 points. I expect this to be an exciting and high-scoring game. I think USC is the better team and should be able to outlast UCLA. This should be a fun game.
I am picking USC

Wisconsin at 16Iowa
Wisconsin’s offense has been almost nonexistent in their last two games. Their defense has been impressive, though. Iowa has been an exciting team this season has been able to put up some points. I don’t think that Wisconsin will be able to score enough points to win this game, but I do think it will be a close game.
I am picking Iowa

San Diego State at 18BYU
It will be interesting to see how BYU responds after their heartbreaking loss to Coastal Carolina last weekend. I think BYU will win this game rather comfortably, but they might come out a little slow. They might also come out with a vengeance, and in that case, SDSU should be afraid.
I am picking BYU

Navy at Army
Though I am a little bit bummed that this game will not be the focus of the weekend like it usually is, I am still looking forward to it. Navy has had a bit of a rough go this season. Army has been impressive so far, but they haven’t played since November 21. This game is always a good one, and I don’t expect it to be different this season. I hope this one comes down to the wire.
I am picking Army

1Alabama at Arkansas
Well, I’d say Arkansas’s offense did ok without their starting QB last week. They were able to score 48 points. Special teams and defense really let the team down. Two PATs were missed and the defense was just not there in the fourth quarter. The Hogs do not have a chance against Alabama. I am hoping for some good moments to have some momentum going into next season. I hope no one gets hurt and that the seniors have a game they are proud of (at least individually). I would also really like to see some better tackling overall and in the fourth quarter especially. I’m so proud of this team and so thankful that Sam Pittman is our head coach.
