2019 Week 10 Preview

Week nine gave us some major upsets. The biggest of them all was Kansas State’s win over previously undefeated fifth-ranked Oklahoma. Actually, all three of the ranked Big 12 teams that played last week were beaten by unranked teams. Baylor was on a bye, and they were very nearly upset by West Virginia on Halloween, but they survived. Michigan played their best game of the season and demolished Notre Dame. Although undefeated Baylor survived a Halloween scare, undefeated Appalachian State did not when their comeback attempt fell short against Georgia Southern. There a couple good games this weekend, but a lot of ranked teams are off this weekend. There are a few chances for upsets, but it should be a low-key weekend.

My Record: 3-3 last week, 38-16 overall

Notable Games
6Florida vs 8Georgia (Jacksonville)
Ah yes, the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party. The top-billed game of the weekend should be a good one. Both of these teams took last weekend off and should be healthy for this one. Georgia just hasn’t looked right since losing to South Carolina. They seem flat and Jake Fromm just hasn’t been what we expected this season. Florida has really gone above my expectations. Despite losing their top QB early, they have overcome on offense and let their strong defense keep them in every game. I’ve seen more fight from the Gators and that is why I am picking them in this game.
I am picking Florida

9Utah at Washington
Utah used their bad loss to USC as a great learning experience. The Utes have been on a roll ever since. Washington is coming off a bye week and before that they blew a lead against Oregon. The Huskies just haven’t been as good as expected. I think this will be close early on, but Utah will come out strong in the second half and pull away.
I am picking Utah

15SMU at 24Memphis
The other ranked vs ranked matchup of the weekend features undefeated and 15th ranked SMU (don’t check your calendars, it is 2019 and not 1989). While the story in this game is more about the Mustangs, Memphis is nothing to look over. The Tigers are a very good team and this should be a great game. There is the potential for a ton of points in this one. SMU has had a few close calls, but they always find a way to come out ahead. I just think they will end up on top in this game that I expect to go to overtime. College Gameday will be at this game, meaning the atmosphere should be rowdy at the Liberty Bowl.
I am picking SMU

Miami at Florida State
This has the potential to be one of the ugliest games of the weekend, well, second ugliest, Arkansas and Mississippi State are playing each other. Miami just looks bad. Even in their win over Pitt last week, I don’t think anyone could say it was a good win. Florida State has quietly turned their season into an average one after starting in an awful spot with a bad loss to Boise State and near loss to ULM. The ‘Noles sit at 4-4 and have three winnable games left on the schedule. I think they should win this one comfortably, but the ACC has been super weird this season.
I am picking Florida State

UAB at Tennessee
Tennessee just might have figured something out last week. The Vols beat South Carolina handedly and didn’t play bad against Alabama the week before. They finish the season with four winnable game, and they only need three to become bowl eligible. UAB is a very good team and they only have one loss on the season. That was a seven-point loss on the road at Western Kentucky. I think this game will be very close, but I think Tennessee will find a way to get a win in this game.
I am picking Tennessee

Virginia at North Carolina
The Coastal Division of the ACC is bad. But they are also very competitive. I guess that is a good thing? Virginia lost to Louisville last week and North Carolina survived Duke. UNC has made some strides with Mack Brown and their freshman QB, but I just want to believe in Virginia. That is mostly because I picked them to win the division. Maybe if I believe hard enough, they will win. This game is a toss-up.
I am picking Virginia

Mississippi State at Arkansas
The poor fanbases of these teams. This game could be a win for either side. The Hogs are searching for their first SEC win under head coach Chad Morris and Miss State is looking to right the ship under Joe Moorhead. This game will probably be ugly. I will finally get to go to a game at DWRRS this season, and it will be homecoming. This should also be, by lightyears, the best weather for an Arkansas vs Miss State game I have ever been to. And I’ve been to this game 5 out of the last 6 years, the weather is usually freezing, raining or snowing. It should be a beautiful fall day on the Hill, let’s hope the football isn’t gloomy.
